Open for the Season 2008 and Lovin' It!

Good afternoon,

This is Kim Strickland, Gaspereau Vineyards and we would just like to let everyone know that we are open for the season and extremely excited about the upcoming growth in the wine industry of Nova Scotia. Things are moving at quite an exhaustive pace with the 2008 awards from the wine competitions being in.

Gaspereau Vineyards has brought home the following awards from the 2008 International Tasters Guild Wine Competition:
2007 Vidal Ortega Icewine - Gold
2007 Seyval Blanc - Gold
2007 Rose - Silver
2007 L'Acadie Blanc - Silver
2006 Lucie Kuhlmann - Silver
2007 Muscat - Bronze
Reserve Port, Maple Wine and 2007 Riesling - all brought home a Bronze Medal

2008 All-Canadian Wine Championships:
Reserve Port - Gold
2006 DeChaunac - Gold
2007 Rose - Gold
2007 Seyval Blanc - Gold
2007 Riesling - Gold
2005/06 Vitis - Silver
2006 Lucie Kuhlmann - Bronze

We would also like to pass along our congratulations to Gerry McConnell, Dara Gordon, Peter Gamble, and Chris Westcott on the release of their Nova 7 from Benjamin Bridge Vineyards just down the road from us in the Gaspereau Valley. Wonderful product, great flavours and it will be an incredible addition to the selection of Nova Scotia wines!

Also, on Sunday July 20 L'Acadie Vineyards will be celebrating their official opening. Tastings, great food and a swing band for entertainment. I know Bruce and Pauline will be extremely successful in all of their endeavours.

Finally, here at Gaspereau Vineyards on the weekend, we will be sampling our 2005 DeChaunac paired with tastings of brushetta! DeChaunac is a very bright, fruit forward red wine with lots of dark cherry flavours and a hint of smokiness. It has a wonderful balance of acidity and tannins which pair very well with tomato based pasta dishes. My favorite dish with DeChaunac though, is crepes filled with a wonderful cheesy (asiago/parmesan/med cheddar) cream sauce, black forest ham and wild mushrooms! An absolute delight with 2005 DeChaunac and you will end the meal feeling like you have just been to France or Italy tasting the most delectable dishes!

Have a great weekend, see you among the vines!
Cheers,
Kim Strickland

  1. When do you plan to open for 2009? We will be in your fair province as part of the Run/Walk in Bedford http://www.aaia.ca/en/activities.htm and would like to know if you will be open when we are in the area, so that we can try your interesting sounding wines, and probably bring some back home.
